What Was the Outcome In My Criminal Case

Riverside Police had taken us to Robert Presley Detention Center in downtown Riverside, CA for booking our fingerprints and DNA on April 6, 2023. 

The jail nursing staff had evaluated my head injury and told the arresting officer that she won't medical clear me unless I go to the Riverside Community Hospital. The nursing staff at RCH had documented my head injury and given me medical treatment.

I was later booked under two felony charges PC M245(A)(2) and PC 243(D) . 

The detention facility had assigned me as a trustee in the kitchen where I worked 12 hours for 5 days a week making breakfast, lunch and dinner. I earned $3.50/per week compared to the $18/hourly from UPS.

I didn't like this new circumstance in my life and everyday that I sat in jail was hell, I thought about my family a lot.

I didn't have any preliminary hearing.

I didn't have any mediation.

I had my case resetted 6 times within 2 months in-custody. (Every two weeks I had court)

On June 5, 2023, my public defender had wanted me to accept a plea deal for a misdemeanor Assault & Battery in which I replied to him, No and to take it to trial. 

The court proceeded it to trial, had the officer sworn-in to testify and it was just me, the public defender, the judge, the bailiff, no jury and maybe two other prisoners in the bench. This trial seem illegitiment for the court already knew that I was the actual victim and the homeless man was the suspect. 

I didn't like any of it because the suspect who was a convicted felon didn't appear in court for he already knew they would of locked him up because he had started it. 

Everything that had happened to us that night was recorded on McDonald's security camera but the county kept me in jail for two months knowing the truth -- that I was innocent.

I was released on June 5, 2023 on Own Recognizance. If I had been released on June 4, I would had celebrated my girlfriend birthday.

On Sept 11, 2023, the case was DISMISSED.

It was a difficult time PERIOD in my life because the pending criminal charges where showing up in my background. I had to wait for the pending criminal charges against me to expunged from my record before applying for work and housing.
